Short Description :
Kerta Gosa was built on 1686 by the First King of Klungkung, Ida I Dewa Agung Jambe. He is the second son of Dalem Dimade, Last King of Gelgel kingdom. After Ida I Dewa Agung Jambe become King of Klungkung, he made a palace in Klungkung that's called Semara Pura, means 'A holy place for love and beauty'. At center of the palace, Kerta Gosa was built on.
At the past, Kerta Gosa has some function :
1. Court of Justice in Klungkung
2. Place of meeting for all kings in Bali
3. Place for a religion ceremony(Manusa Yadnya) called 'Mepandes', means a ceremony to give sign that a person have become an adult, for the royal family
Kerta Gosa's consist of 2 building, Bale akerta gosa and Bale Kambang, It's called Bale Kambang (The Floating Hall) because its building is surrounded by a pool called Taman Gili. The ceiling of these building are covered by Indonesian Traditional puppet (Wayang) paintings on fibrous cement sheets. The original paintings were done with traditional Balinese colors on canvas, then later restored on 1930 using the fibrous cement sheets, and again renewed on 1960.
The paintings are tell about 'Karma Phala', which means the cause of good and bad behavior of human on his entire life.
