Taman Ujung Water Palace



Name : Taman Soekasada Ujung or also called Ujung Water Palace
Located ; Desa Tumbu, Kec. Karangasem, Kab. Karangasem

Denpasar approximately 85 km or 2 hours of travel.
Amlapura city approximately 5 km or 20 minutes of travel.

Short Description :
The Water Palace was originally constructed by the last Karangasem King, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, that has been governing Karangasem between 1909-1945. It began constructed on 1919 and officially open on 1912. The main function of this Water Palace is to become place of relaxation for the King of Karangasem, this palace also used to welcoming the king guest especially others King or the head of a government.

When the Mount Agung was exploded on 1963 and an earthquake on 1979, this palace got a very serious destruction but on 2000 the palace complex area was renovated by local government in cooperation with the world bank. Although the palace is not as same as before, but it still have great pride in it. Nowadays the palace has become a memorial place for respecting the Karangasem Kings and also become a tourist attraction.

The palace has 3 ponds, at center of the north pond, there’s the main building of the palace that connected with 2 bridges from each side of ponds. It has European style and Balinese style mixed in its building. At west side of the pond, there’s a higher place, a better view spot for the Palace scenery, it’s like a “Bale Bengong” in Bali.

At the south pond, there’s a Balinese hall called “Balai Kambang”, it’s connected with only a bridge from east side of the pond.




At higher place on the west side of the palace, there’s a ruin called “Balai Kapal”. From this point, you can see a great wonderful scenery around the palace.




What to bring :
a casual wear, hat, camera, sunblock, a mat for picnic if you want to enjoyed a lunch in a palace
